April 16, 2026 – True Corporation revealed insights from its AI powered intelligent network, analyzing Mobility Data during Songkran 2026. The findings reflect real time travel patterns and digital usage behavior, showing a broader distribution of travel across Thailand. The Northeast recorded the highest growth, while international arrivals continued to rise, led by Chinese tourists as the top nationality.
The festive atmosphere remained vibrant nationwide, with both TrueMove H and dtac customers experiencing strong network performance. This was supported by proactive network readiness, including deployment of Cells on Wheels (COW), installation of temporary base stations, and the use of AI powered Autonomous Network Level 4.0 for real time analysis, prediction, and optimization to handle increased demand with precision.
True’s mobility data from 11 to 15 April 2026 showed that 15.5% of Bangkok metropolitan residents and 4.5% of Eastern region residents traveled during the holiday. Interregional travel increased significantly, with the Northeast leading at +12.6%, followed by the North at +7%, Central region at +3.6%, and the South at +2.2%. The trend highlights both return to hometown travel and the continued rise of secondary cities as popular destinations.
The top five most visited provinces were Buri Ram, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Roi Et, and Nakhon Si Thammarat, with four out of five located in the Northeast, reinforcing the region’s role as a key travel and homecoming hub during the festival.
Thailand’s Songkran soft power continued to attract international tourists, with inbound roamers increasing by 2.5%. The top five nationalities were China, Malaysia, Russia, Laos, and India. Outbound Thai travel also rose by 24.5%, with China, Laos, Malaysia, Japan, and Taiwan as the most popular destinations.
In Bangkok, both locals and international tourists continued to celebrate Songkran at major city center locations, driving the highest growth in mobile network usage between 11 and 15 April 2026. The top five locations were Khaosan Road, Silom Road, ICONSIAM, Siam Square, and CentralWorld. Silom hosted Songkran activities from 12 to 14 April, while other locations ran through 15 April.
Meanwhile, the five provinces with the highest data usage were Bangkok, Chon Buri, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, and Samut Sakhon.
Mobile usage behavior during Songkran continued to center on social media platforms, reflecting real time content sharing throughout the festival. The top five applications for TrueMove H users were Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, WhatsApp, and LINE. For dtac users, the top five were Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok, and LINE.
Mr. Khurrum Ashfaque, Chief Network Officer of True Corporation Public Company Limited, said, “Mobile usage data not only reflects travel patterns during the festival, but also highlights how digital lifestyles, mobility, and communication now happen simultaneously in real time. Across major cities, secondary cities, and transport routes, True leverages AI and Autonomous Network systems to intelligently manage network performance, ensuring seamless connectivity through real time optimization, traffic balancing in high density areas, and continuous monitoring 24 hours a day. This enables customers to enjoy reliable 5G, 4G, WiFi, and home broadband services throughout Songkran.”
This strong performance was driven by comprehensive network planning and deployment, including Cells on Wheels and temporary base stations at key event locations nationwide, as well as expanded In Building Coverage in shopping malls and urban areas to support changing consumer behavior toward more city based activities.
True also applied AI certified at Autonomous Network Level 4.0 by TM Forum through Intent Based Operation, functioning as a 24 hour automated operations system to predict and optimize network performance ahead of demand.
Mr. Khurrum added that True continues to maintain network quality across major transportation routes nationwide to support people traveling back to their hometowns and returning to Bangkok, particularly those extending their holidays through 19 April 2026.
True Corporation will further leverage Mobility Data and user behavior insights to enhance future network planning, aiming to deliver even better customer experiences during major festivals, including Songkran, which is expected to grow further in scale and vibrancy across key destinations such as Silom, Siam Square, Khaosan, and major provinces including Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Chon Buri.
